The Worlds Best Santana Tribute performed by Rico

Rico is defined as a band with a rich sound of diversified musical cultures. A mixture of sophisticated melodic genres and ethnicity coming together is the essence of Rico! This sound can be heard on their CD’s entitled “Make Music (2010)” and “Casa De Tambores (2004)”. Influenced tremendously by the sound and spirit of Santana, you can say Rico is the modern day Santana. These musicians also do a three hour tribute show paying homage to their main influence Santana. The band is comfortable in a… (more)ny genre and is right at home putting their spin on covers from Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Kanye West, Hendrix, Santana, etc. Rico creates an immense fiery soulful sound through bass, congas, percussion, drums, timbales, keyboards, guitar, and pure passion. The band will move you physically and mentally with their hypnotic blend of afro-cuban rhythms, or purge deep into your soul with their eminent sense of melody. They are influenced and inspired by all the innovative rock, soul, jazz, afro-cuban, blues, funk, reggae, and hip-hop pioneers. Rico! is a conglomeration of all the great musical idioms, with a cast of talented musicians to stir and season a rich flavorful sound. The world’s music is Rico! and their vision is to play inspiring music bridging the gap and bringing all people together in peace, harmony and happiness.

“The three-piece slaughterhouse rock ‘n’ roll of Chicago minor threat Ramova kind of destroys everything in it’s path, an assault on both your appreciation of modern garage rock and throwback, power chord brawls. Live, the band’s downright loud and fun. On Tape, the band has an innocent, if destructive, charm that’s unavoidable and immediate. And the band’s “Genghis Khan” is the best song you’ll ever hear titled after a Mongolian warmonger. Advice? Enjoy with whiskey or beer. Or both.” -New City Chicago

The Cathy Santonies are a subversive mix of riot grrrl & cock rock…now, don’t you wanna hear what that sounds like?
Mojo Santoni bangs out solid, catchy riffs and mindblowing solos in a way that will make you want to run home to mommy. She is joined on guitar by the illustrious Jane Danger, who will hypnotize you with steady rhythms and intricate lead lines. You could try if you wanted, but the band’s message of girl rock revolution is impossible to ignore because of Radio Santoni’s powerfully unique voice and relentless energy. The rock-solid drumming of Chippy anchors the sonic thrashing and keeps everyone dancing their asses off and begging for more. Yeah!
The Cathy Santonies–rock n roll is NOT dead.

Tim Menard and the Flying Nowakowski Brothers have been rocking the Chicagoland area since 2003. Yes, they’re really brothers, and some say they’ve seen them fly. From local bars to nationally known clubs, college campuses to festivals, the Chicago Marathon to Wrigley Field, these guys have energized audiences with their unique sound and acrobatic musicianship. Stylistically, their music has been compared to U2, Steve Earle, and REM. Before their circus days, the band members performed in grou… (more)ps such as Ballads and Balderdash, CopperMinds, Crybaby, Brementown, Dogs Undecided, John Kimler, Fallen Angels, Lou Ryder Band, The Owls, Dreaming of Hands, and Thomas Pace. Tim, Devin, Sean, and Aaron have also logged many hours of studio time, recording for a vast array of artists. They are currently involved in the creation of a John Prine tribute album being produced at Strobe Recording in Chicago. So if you’re looking for a band that can really rock the big tent, bring on Tim Menard and the Flying Nowakowski Brothers.

The Wheels are a quintet of acoustic songwriters from Oak Park whose music could be described as folk noire. These artists explore textured soundscapes, wrought with longing heartache for lost loves and redemption. Dark romantics all, their songs encompass a world that is melancholy, impassioned, and sonically apropos. LaRaie Zimm, is a contributing lyricist whose vocal power astonishes and may cause ethereal palpitations. Alexander Mizicko is a contributing lyricist vocalist and guitarist, … (more)his songs cascade down your mind like glaciers of old memories. Juliet Mizicko is a contributing lyricist, vocalist and guitarist. Her songs’ subtle reveries drift forth from seas and mountains of commanding inspiration. Paul Russell’s masterful violin and Isaac Lyons’ accordion bring magnificent compliment to the singers. A stream of consciousness meanders from bow and bellows; their solos fuel the bonfires of dreams

Right Rongly

Chicago may not be the Music Capital of the Universe, but any artist who’s done a few years around the Windy City will agree that its unforgiving environment really teaches an artist to give 100% every time. From this “boot camp city” emerges Right Rongly, a dynamic duo who has reinvented “acoustic rock” in short order.Led by longtime Chicago guitar mangler Scottish McMillan, whose solo work has been regarded by many music critics to be among the Acoustic genre’s most innovative and exciting, R… (more)ight Rongly takes on metal, funk, jazz, ballads, and everything else they can think of with equal facility. As Right Rongly’s drummer, Ryan Aiello provides heavy, groove-driven drum beats, offering a solid platform for McMillan’s big, floppy, fuzzy, funky guitar riffs and blasting vocal fits. An accomplished “jammer”, Aiello’s been out and about with a number of bands since graduating with an Associate’s Degree in music performance from McNally Smith College of Music (formerly MusicTech College), in St. Paul, Minnesota. Gigging since the age of 15, Aiello has toured with several bands, including Never Stay Quiet, Random Pulse, and Combat Astronomy; before settling in Chicago in 2007. Aiello’s focus has now sharpened on Right Rongly, and in the last year, he and McMillan have kept their calendars full, both with shows and with recording, all of which has been done live, both on stage and in the studio. Right Rongly tightly embraces the idea, “If you can’t do it live, you just can’t do it.” Only recently has the band started making multi-track studio recordings, and the release of their debut album is tentatively set for Spring 2010. Until then, their music can be heard at MYSPACE.COM/RIGHTRONGLY, and you can be sure that you’re hearing exactly what they put out at shows – it was all done in one take. They’ve released a high-definition, live-concert DVD, shot at Chicago’s Double Door in late 2008, and it really highlights their musicality as well as McMillan and Aiello’s chemistry together. Right Rongly’s shared influences in progressive rock like Rush and King Crimson, 90′s rock like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, and weirdo jam-funk like Les Claypool, shine brightly in Right Rongly’s music, but the work feels totally genuine. More and more each day, Right Rongly clearly defines themselves as leaders in a brand-new field

Bile

Originally formed as a performance art project in 1992, the Long Island-bred Bile grew into a ferocious spectacle of industrialized metal and post-apocalyptic visuals. With as many as 11 members on-stage — including a dominatrix and fire-breather — the group took the snarling, aggro-electronic formula of artists like Ministry and tortured it with distorted vocals and terrorizing sampling. Led by enigmatic vocalist Krztoff, the band released three albums on Energy Records, including their impr… (more)essive debut, Suckpump. Following a tour with GWAR and countless lineup changes, Energy folded, inciting Bile to regroup and record for their own label. Sex Reflex was released on Bile Style Records in March 2000. Following their most monumental album, Bile continued with numerous compilation discs, a best of, and their latest album, Demonic Electronic. Bile has been a one-man-project for many years, as Krztoff is the brains / creativity / talent of the studio. To accompany on tour, RHBear and other select artists are chosen to perform. Bile has become one of the biggest underground acts of the 90′s as well as the millennium. Bile has gone through constant lineup changes. The two founding members still pursuing the project are Krztoff and RH Bear. Currently, Bile is Krztoff, RH Bear, Brett Frana, Dave Sussmann, and Jester. Various artists have been in the act, so Bile has never had a permanent group lineup.

HEMI

Since the band’s inception in 2002, HEMI has always been determined to be a band that carried the torch of the true heavy metal sound pioneered by the legendary acts of the 1970’s and 1980’s that influenced them so greatly. Taking such influence and blending it with their own unique style, HEMI has produced a sound that has set them apart from many of the bands of today and put them in a category all by themselves. Formed in their hometown of Chicago, the band set it’s goals early and… (more) cut several demos with various lineups throughout the years before recording and releasing their debut album Fire in the Sky in 2007. Met with an overwhelming response, Fire in the Sky quickly catapulted HEMI into an underground mainstream which caught not only the eyes and ears of thousands of new fans but also critics and industry professionals alike such as famed producer Michael Wagener (Ozzy, Metallica, Dokken, Skid Row, Accept) who gave the band very positive reviews on their work. Fire in the Sky was consequently distributed digitally to every major downloadable channel and is also famous for being the only independently released LP to be distributed by Hot Topic stores across the country. In 2008 the HEMI teamed up with RavensFilm Productions to contribute the title track of the album to an upcoming motion picture called The Fixer. Director Nick Michelak saw a unique opportunity to work with HEMI further documenting the film’s release and their involvement by producing a music video for the track Fire in the Sky. The video was an instant success and helped expose HEMI even further to a worldwide audience. The band launched their official YouTube channel in 2010 and received a global welcome that not only furthered their exposure to a worldwide audience but also future touring offers across Europe and South America. With weekly updates for their fans, music videos, backstage highlights and complete show videos, HEMI is determined to bring a full scale experience of the band and it’s members to all of their fans around the world. Currently working on their second full-length album, HEMI promises that 2010 will be one of the most memorable years in the band’s history.

Cealed Kasket

Cealed Kasket’s live show is a frenetic medieval horror opera set in the dark ages, a presentation of barbaric hedonistic rock and roll so powerful it would reduce Alice Cooper to prison rape bait. The Onion called it ” Over-the-top mock-metal played with enough death-rock affectation to make Marilyn Manson look like the master of subtlety.” Equal parts comedy and tragedy, their rabid fan base comes not only for the music but for the theatrical experience-to be a warrior, to be a part of the bat… (more)tle, to join their heroes onstage with swords raised and blood boiling. Drinking contests, shouting matches, special effects, knights, wenches and backstage sluttin maximize audience participation. Special Effects by Bad Dog Efx ( LucasFilm Ltd/ 20Th Century Fox / Universal Pictures), and medieval set design by David Krause (Red Moon Theatre) set the tone for onstage dragon slaying debauchery as the crowds roar aids the band in pulling the proverbial and literal sword from the stone. Led by the self-proclaimed Jesus Christ of Heavy Metal, vocalist Mortal Death has assembled a rag-tag group of supernaturals dedicated to the glory of classic metal, swords and sorcery. Sir Sarsicus, the 500-year-old wizard, works his guitar magic from castle towers and has been known to grow to extreme heights before the crowds’ very eyes. Bassist and diamond baron Maurice Pearlman can out-whiskey the largest senator, and drummer extraordinaire Scott Jackson is satiated only by fast cars, white leather, titty-cams and free party favors. The band is kept in line by the Soul Collector, the hype man and manager with a penchant for dancing, “gangsta shit”, and stealing the spirits of the youth. The self titled debut album Cealed Kasket was recorded and mixed during a 5-day schnapps binge at legendary Gravity Studios by producer Manny Sanchez (Zwan, Umphreys McGee, The Von Bondies, Rod Stewart). Emmie Magazine states “Cealed Kaskets lurid songcraft instills the utmost vigor into the surging, fetid masses.” The album represents an ambitious masterpiece of nostalgic power metal and medieval fuckerey-a drunken toast to the Old Wave of British Heavy Metal.

In the Last year alone, Alex received airplay on BBC’s Mary Anne Hobbs Show (the authority on up-and-coming bass music) and URB Magazine, who flagged him as one to watch in their highly regarded annual “Next 100” issue, say… (more)ing, “Whether he is remixing Dilla or creating patchwork masterpieces, his resourcefulness is as prominent as his passion. Be on the lookout for his full-length album.” The wait is almost over. Moments is set to hit the streets April 6th on Alex B’s own Elm&Oak imprint. To call Elm&Oak a record label would be as over simplistic as calling Alex B’s productions “beats”. Elm&Oak is a creative hub for web design, graphic design, clothing, graffiti, photography and event promotion, all of which Alex is actively involved in. Those familiar with Alex B already know that he tends to take a layered approach to everything, especially his music. The tracks on Moments are intricately crafted with painstaking care and attention to detail — a careful mix of analog and digital sounds elevated by imaginative samples and the insight of a classically trained musician. The result is a blend of timeless warmth and future beats that is as easily adaptable to introspective time with one’s headphones as it is to group mania on a mobbed dance floor. This is evident through Alex B’s recently produced mix that has been getting huge downloads. “Brain Food” for Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder label, contains 90% unreleased tracks, and has been a nice tide over for those itching to hear Moments in its entirety. The mix includes a taste of the novel sounds in store and clues about guest appearances on the album.

Eliot Lipp didn’t choose to become one of the most looked to artists in contemporary electronic music, but somehow, Lipp’s sound, one that uses vintage gear to create a unique take on Hip Hop and House, has quickly garnered the respect among the industry’s most influential musicians and producers as well as the deep admiration among audiences worldwide. Since being discovered by Scott Herren (aka Prefuse 73) in the mid 2000’s, and releasing albums on the cutting edge labels Eastern De… (more)velopments, Mush and Hefty as well as backing the hype with a relentless touring schedule of influential live shows all over the globe, Lipp has quickly become one of the barometers for the revival of electronic music in the States. Originally hailing from Tacoma, WA, Lipp paid his dues in the underground scenes of almost every primary market in the US, Europe and Asia, including stints in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago before dropping roots in the Brooklyn scene that has continued to produce some of the most recognized artists in contemporary indie and electronic music. Lipp’s signature sound, a crossbreed of 90’s Hip Hop and House, 70’s Funk fusion as well as classic Electro, has and will continue to breakdown barriers and transpose trendy scenes. Whether programming Hip Hop beats, writing dirty basslines, collaborating with the likes of premier producers, DJs, MCs and musicians, examined by SPIN, URB, Pitchfork and other media or playing popping parties at clubs and festivals worldwide, Eliot Lipp will continue to do his part in revolutionizing electronic music.
